A brute force attack is a popular cracking method: according to some estimates, brute force attacks accounted for 5% of confirmed security breaches. A brute force attack involves attempting to guess usernames and passwords in order to gain unauthorized access to a system. Brute force is a straightforward attack method with a high success rate.
Types of Brute Force Attack
1.Simple brute force attack — uses a methodical approach to ‘guessing’ that does not rely on external logic
2.Dictionary attacks — uses a dictionary of possible strings or phrases to guess usernames or passwords
3.Rainbow table attacks — A rainbow table is a pre-computed table that can be used to reverse cryptographic hash functions. It can be used to guess a function with a limited set of characters up to a certain length.
4.Reverse brute force attack — uses a single password or a set of passwords against a large number of possible usernames Attacks a network of users about whom the attackers have previously obtained information.
