Introduction

Embarking on a hands-on networking journey can be both exciting and enlightening. In this guide, we will delve into a practical exercise using Packet Tracer to create, configure, and connect networks. Our focus will be on setting up two routers, connecting them, configuring PCs, and implementing the Routing Information Protocol (RIP). Get ready to unleash the power of networking!

Network Setup in Packettracer

Setting the Stage: Packet Tracer Environment🔍

Step 1: Opening Packet Tracer

Start by launching Packet Tracer and creating a new project. The canvas is your playground, where we will bring our network to life.

Step 2: Placing Devices

Drag and drop the necessary devices onto the workspace. We need two routers (Router0 and Router1), two switches (Switch1 and Switch2), and four PCs (PC1, PC2, PC3, and PC4).

Connecting the Dots: Building the Network🔗

Step 3: Interconnecting Devices

Connect Router0 to Switch1, PCs (PC1 and PC2) to Switch1, Router1 to Switch2, and PCs (PC3 and PC4) to Switch2. Finally, establish a connection between Router0 and Router1.

Configuring Devices⚙️

Configuring PCs:

Configure IP addresses on the PCs to enable seamless communication within their respective networks.

  • PC1: IP 192.168.0.2, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.0.1
  • PC2: IP 192.168.0.3, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.0.1
  • PC3: IP 172.16.0.2, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0, Gateway 172.16.0.1
  • PC4: IP 172.16.0.3, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0, Gateway 172.16.0.1

Testing and Verification✔️

  • Use show ip route on both routers to verify RIP's effectiveness.
  • Test connectivity between PCs on different routers (Ping from one end to another end )

Troubleshooting Tips🚧

  • If issues arise, use debug ip rip to gather real-time information.
  • Verify interface configurations using show ip interface brief.
