I am Doing my CCNA(Cisco Certified Network Associate) course on my college campus. I’d like to share and post some fundamental networking concepts that are essential for entering the field of cybersecurity. I’ve already started one series on this platform, but the response has been very low, so I’ve decided to cancel it. Provide maximum Support from your end.

What is Networking?

The interconnection of multiple devices, such as computers, smartphones, and servers, to facilitate communication and the exchange of information and resources is referred to as networking.

It allows devices to communicate with one another and share data and resources such as files, printers, and internet access. Networking is critical in enabling the communication and collaboration required in today’s interconnected world for both personal and business reasons.

A basic network setup necessitates the following components

  1. Devices
  2. Network Interface Cards (NICs)
  3. Cables and Connectors
  4. Routers
  5. Switches
  6. Modems
  7. Firewall
  8. Access Point
  9. Power over Ethernet (PoE) Injector

These are some of the fundamental components required for a basic network setup. A network’s specific components and requirements will vary depending on its size, type, and intended use.

Protocols

A protocol is a set of rules and standards that govern the communication between network devices. It specifies how data should be formatted, transmitted, and received, as well as how to handle errors. Protocols enable different devices and systems to communicate and exchange information, even if they are made by different companies.

How Network Works?

A network allows multiple devices to communicate and exchange data with one another. The basic steps in how a network works are as follows

  1. Connection: Devices are physically linked to the network via cables or wireless via a router or access point.
  2. IP Address Assignment: Each device is given a unique IP address, which is used to identify and locate it on the network.
  3. Communication: Devices communicate with one another by sending and receiving data packets.
  4. Routing: Routing is the process of directing traffic between networks and determining the best path for data to take.
  5. Data Transfer: Data is transferred from one device to another via the network, using switches and routers to route the data to its destination.
  6. Data Reception: The receiving device receives and processes the data.
  7. Acknowledgement: To confirm that the data has been received, the receiving device sends an acknowledgment back to the sending device.

These are the fundamental steps in the operation of a network. In reality, networks can be far more complicated, involving numerous devices, protocols, and technologies. However, the fundamental principles of communication and data transfer remain unchanged.
